Effect of age on Fertility.

Article-16 ![]() ![]() ★ Age related infertility remains one of the most difficult challenges of infertility treatment .
Reproductive specialists have known for years that the pregnancy rate is inversely related to the female partner's age .
Current social trend of women to delay childbearing for educational and career goals, have a dramatic increase in age related infertility .
Delayed child bearing is becoming increasingly common in our society like west for example, many couples prefer to rear their children
only after establishing a stable relationship , financial security , also , because of increasing numbers of late and second marriages .
★As a woman's age increases , her ability to become pregnant decreases due to the many biological changes taking place in her body .
The real issue the quality and quantity of the egg which translates into embryo quality finally .
★From age 30 to 35 , the chances of becoming pregnant gradually decline and after age 40 there is a sharp decline .
Even if a woman becomes pregnant at a later age , chances of miscarriage and chromosomal abnormalities , resulting in birth defects
such as Down's Syndrome , increases with age . Assisted reproductive technologies, including in vitro fertilization
and intracytoplasmic sperm injection , also become less successful as age increases. Furthermore , advanced maternal age is associated with
increased risk of gestational diabetes , pre-eclampsia , placenta praevia , caesarean section , fetal growth restriction ,
premature birth and the risk of stillbirth . Also the possibility of premature menopause and gynecological problems such as tubal damage endometriosis ,
fibroids also tend to affect the fertility .
★Men can remain fertile for much longer than women . Even though male fertility also declines with age , it tends to happen gradually for men .
While many men remain fertile into their 50s and beyond , the proportion of men with sperm disorders increases with age .
The decline in male fertility is more gradual for men than women .
